Our Mission
Legal Advocates for Children & Youth advances the legal rights of minors in Santa Clara County, empowering them to lead healthy and productive lives. We listen to, advise, and advocate for our clients to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are protected.

 

Legal Advocates for Children & Youth (LACY) gives children and teens - each with their own unique challenges, needs, and circumstances - a voice when they need it most. In 2003/2004, LACY provided free legal representation, advocacy, and information to over 1200 minors in Santa Clara County, and educated several hundred minors, parents, service providers, and attorneys on legal issues relevant to minors.

 

The issues we assist with are the following:

-Family Law

            -Child Support

            -Paternity

            -Custody

            -Visitation

            -Restraining Orders

-Education

            -Special Education

            -Expulsions

            -Suspensions

Cross Streets: On the corner of Market and West St. John Street
Directions: Light rail: St. James VTA Light Rail Station in Downtown San Jose. Caltrain: Diridon Caltrain Station Bus terminal: Located a few blocks from the bus terminal on Santa Clara Street. Driving: Julian/St. James exit from 87-East. On St. James, approximately 3 blocks to Market, turn right and we're on your right in one block.

 Thursday: during lunch: 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
  This clinic is held weekly, and is mainly for students of Andrew Hill High School.
 
 
Who We Serve:

Counties Served:  Santa Clara
 
We only serve children that are currently living in Santa Clara County.
Other Languages Spoken:  French, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese Chinese, German, Vietnamese, Spanish
Interpreters can be provided for: Interpreters are provided when available.
Wheelchair Accessible: Y
Access for the deaf: We have TTY and TDD lines, and certain staff members know sign language.

Type of Help:
This group provides the following types of services based on your legal needs and its resources:
 
  Full Legal Representation- For the most part, we offer full representation in all areas that we address, but we evaluate on a case by case basis.
  Brief Advice- We offer brief advice in all areas that we address.

What is an emergency?  A case that involves a Restraining Order, Expulsion, or when kids are being removed from home by their parents or other relatives.
